Signs of Herpes – How to know if you have the virus

If you’ve noticed strange symptoms in or around your genital area and suspect it may be herpes, don’t panic. Herpes is more common than you think – one in five people have the virus. And while it is surrounded by all sorts of rumors of it’s seriousness, herpes is actually quite controllable.

Symptoms of herpes can be virtually non-existent, or can be quite severe. Sufferers can experience sores or lesions around the genital area that can be itchy and weep, while others will get a rash of some kind. Herpes has even been known to cause flu-like symptoms such as headache, fever and nausea.

The only way to truly know if you have herpes is to get tested. At the first sign of any symptoms, or even if you have had recent unprotected sex, you should speak with a doctor and arrange to be tested. There are a few different kinds of tests that can be carried out, and each is relatively simple and painless.
