Symptoms of Herpes in Women
Men and women have very similar bodily reactions to a herpes infection. The only real difference that can be noted between the two is the location of the outbreaks with regards to gender specific body parts. When the virus is present in a man or woman, the body fights the outbreak in exactly the same way.
An unusual fact however, is that women are less likely to spread the herpes virus – it is less infectious when present in the female body, therefore women are less likely to pass the virus onto another person. The reason for this is not known, but the reality is that the emotional negatives are no less, and many women often have to suffer alone.
About one in four women have the herpes virus – this is more than most people realize. Many women often don’t recognize the symptoms they experience as being herpes, because herpes often comes in stages that last two or three weeks, at which point symptoms subside. At this point, the virus is said to be dormant – there are no symptoms present so the woman has no reason to believe they are infected.
